Air particles regulation in the Mediterranean cities.

09:00-13:00 - Auditorium PRBB. C/ Dr. Aiguader 88.

Results and impact of the MEDPARTICLES Life-+ project

The project MED-PARTICLES: “Particles size and composition in Mediterranean countries: geographical variability and short-term health effects” has been designed in order to deliver new evidence on specific issues on which EU is expected to provide new standards on the face of conflicting epidemiological results: a) do fine and coarse particles exert short-term effects on human health in Europe? b) which PM components are most responsible of the health effects? c) what is the role of natural events, such as Saharan dust and forest fires, and to what extent should they be monitored? The aim of the workshop is to present new results on these topics and to discuss them within the framework of the European Directive on Air Quality, to be issued by the EU on 2013.
About the organizers: The workshop is co-organized by the Centre for Research of Environmental Epidemiology in Barcelona, Spain, and the Department of Epidemiology, Lazio Regional Health Service in Rome, Italy.
