    CREAL joins Caixa Catalunya in 'Youth and Science' program

    The Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL) has joined the 'Youth in Science' program which fits the action line of research and developement and the Obra Social Caixa Catalunya and aims to promote scientific vocation of young students with talent and interest in science and encourage their enthusiasm for the dedication to research and scientific careers. Thus, the image CREAL expands its educational and research with national projection.

    The Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI) is preparing a series of television reports on research done by researchers who received funding from the TV3 Marathon, conducted in collaboration by students of Master in Science Communication and Communication Blues. One of the first was held here in CREAL.

    The Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (Creal) participated for the first time in Science Week was held from 13 to 24 November. Specifically, on November 23 CREAL was visited by 60 students of 2nd Batxillerat de l'IES Can Vilumara L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.

    Jordi Sunyer project received 189,636.88 € from La Marató

    The coordinator of the Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL), Jordi Sunyer, collected 189,636.88 € from La Marató de TV3 to develop the project "Interactions in the Environment Jan-Deficit Disorder of Attention and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and autistic spectrum disorder, birth cohorts in the general population. "

    The Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL) celebrated its annual Retreat at Cosmocaixa. The aim of this date is that all researchers can know more about the more or less 50 projects which are being developed in this centre and discuss concerns and needs of each one.

  • Moderate physical activity can help stop the evolution of COPD

    We must stress that every year, 18.000 Spaniards die from COPD, a figure that makes it the top cause of avoidable death in Spain and the only pathology related to smoking that continues to be on the rise. According to the EPISCAN study, the prevalence of COPD in Spain currently extends to 10.2% of the population –nearly one and a half million citizens.

  • Open Day at PRBB

    On Saturday, October 3, from 10am to 7pm, we invite the citizens to an educational and joyful Open Day at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB). Visitors can participate in scientific experiments, visit laboratories and installations, watch videos, get to know the lines of research of the park, participate in a round-table discussion and talk to the young scientists who will attend all the questions of the public.

  • Estimating the risk of death in COPD

    Researchers from the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL) and the Municipal Institute of Medical Research (IMIM-Hospital del Mar), in collaboration with the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, have participated in an international consortium that has developed a new risk index for COPD patients. With this index, doctors can assess disease severity more objectively and estimate the risk of death.
