    Social class makes no difference to water contamination risk

    Wealthy, well educated people who choose to drink bottled water rather than water from public supplies may be no less exposed to potentially cancer-causing water contaminants, according to new research published in BioMed Central’s open access journal Environmental Health.

    Recercaixa rewards two CREAL projects

    Yesterday Obra Social "la Caixa" and the Association of Catalan Public Universities (ACUP) gave at Barcelona CosmoCaixa, grants to projects selected in the first round of RecerCaixa new program aimed at encouraging and stimulating research in Catalonia. Two of these projects are led by CREAL researchers, Michelle Mendez and Martine Vrijheid.

    Four Catalan researchers are just addressed to the President of the Catalan government, Artur Mas, pointed to his opinion about the imminent elimination of the speed limit 80 km/hour. In a letter to the president of the Generalitat these scientists detail 10 points of reflection that should be taken into account before deleting this measure and request to "leave the political debate and focus on the technical debate."

    MeDALL, a new project with the intention of understanding the epidemic allergy

    Allergy, the epidemic of the 21st century worldwide, is a major health problem and needs to be prevented and better controlled. MeDALL, a new EU health project under the 7th Framework programme, has the intention of understanding the reasons for the increased prevalence of allergy observed in the past decades. From January 24th to 26th 2011 23 consortium members involved begin to work in this project during the kick-off meeting hold in PRBB, Barcelona, Spain.

    A researcher CREAL participates in WHO guidelines on indoor air quality and chemicals

    CREAL researcher, Jan-Paul Zock, participated in the new issue of comprehensive guidelines for indoor air quality that were presented today. The WHO Guidelines for Indoor Air Quality: Selected pollutants result from the contribution of over 60 international scientists to the project coordinated by WHO Regional Office for Europe and present for the first time evidence and guidance to protect health from the impact of indoor chemicals globally.

    CREAL will celebrate tomorrow the Retreat 2010

    Last Friday 19th November the Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL) celebrated its annual Retreat at the Barcelona Centre of Contemporary Culture (CCCB). The aim of this date is that all researchers can know more about the more or less 50 projects which are being developed in this centre and discuss concerns and needs of each one.

    CREAL codirector obtains the Advanced Grant from ERC

    Jordi Sunyer has received this grant from the European Research Council to develop the project named BREATHE , in which the effects of air pollution on neurodevelopment in children will be studied.
