CREAL participates in the Park(ing) Day Barcelona

The Park(ing) Day is an annual event that, through the transformation of temporary parking spaces, claims a greener and human city, with a commitment to sustainable mobility and to reduce air and noise pollution. In Barcelona, the event takes place on Friday, September 18th, with the participation of about 60 groups around the city.

One more year, the global event Park(ing) Day is organized in Barcelona with the aim to explain and give information to the public on the mobility model, urban green and public space.

On Friday, September 18th, individuals, environmental groups, social organizations, architectural,... will transform, temporarily, the public parking spaces in little green, leisure and quiet spaces to demand a city:

- More green, with more parks and gardens and with more biodiversity,

- With more quality public spaces designed for people and not for cars,

- Aware and active to reduce air and noise pollution,

- With a commitment to sustainable mobility.

The Park(ing) Day, which celebrates its 10th anniversary, is celebrated in over 200 cities worldwide. This initiative, born in San Francisco (USA) in 2005 from the hand of Rebar group of architects was held in Barcelona for the first time last year coordinated under the leadership of the Aula Ambiental. Then, they are involving some 40 entities and 30 facilities were developed. This year both the participation of groups such as the number of installations have increased.

The Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL) participates in Park(ing) Day Barcelona with a facility in Rambla de Catalunya, 111 where present a plan of air pollution in the city of Barcelona and interact with citizens to see how transport have taken to arrive to the installation.

The initiative seeks to increase year after year the involvement of entities related to the environment, urban planning and community involvement, among others, to achieve the maximum claim and create synergies between groups and individuals working to improve the quality of life in the city.
