200 young European researchers in environmental epidemiology met in Barcelona

About 200 young researchers and experts in environmental epidemiology research across Europe will meet on 20 and 21 October at the Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) to promote scientific communication environmental epidemiology in Europe at a time when they need to promote research on the effects of environmental exposures on health and take preventive measures.

The Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL), an ISGlobal research centre, organizes the conference together with the European section of the International Society of Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE) in response to the need of young researchers focused on study of the environment and health and will continue its work to improve public health. During these two days they will present the results of recent published studies focusing on air pollution, water, noise, pollutants or persistent effects of radiation. A main theme of the conference will be the exposome which covers all environmental exposures from conception onwards.

According to Dr. Manolis Kogevinas, coordinator of this event, Chairman of the Steering Committee of ISEE-Europe and CREAL codirector, "we believe in the importance of helping young people motivated to continue to keep doing environmental epidemiological research with different actions like foster the relationship between them to increase synergies and promote creativity in times of economic crisis."

Dr. Maribel Casas, postdoctoral researcher in CREAL points out that "this is a unique opportunity to improve our relationship, learn several methods of work and to promote co-operation between the different research studies in Europe such as in times of need as crisis."
