The Catalan Government presents the Strategic Plan for Research and Innovation in Health 2012-2015

The Government of the Generalitat from Catalunya approved last October the Strategic Plan for Research and Innovation in Health 2012-2015, with the aim of improving the health and growth of Catalonia through new policies in this area. On November 22nd was officially launched at a ceremony at the Palau of Generalitat and attended by the CREAL director, Dr. Josep M. Antó, among others directors of centers and hospitals.

According to the Directorate General of Regulation, Planning and Health Resources, the main objective of this plan is to shorten the period from search results and the application to clinical practice and public health. Catalonia has specific conditions to develop in the area of health, a leading international cluster, as indicated by the Strategic Plan.

Research and innovation in Catalonia

Currently, Catalan publications represent 2.35% of the world literature. In fact, research in hospitals and in 20 research centers in health (CERCA) in Catalonia are above the world average in terms of impact. Overall, the sector employs 30,000 people, of which 18,000 (researchers and technical personnel) engaged in R & D.
