As the first summer school in epidemiology established in Europe the Florence course has been attended since 1988 by over sixteen hundred students. The EEPE is sponsored by the International Epidemiological Association, the WHO Centre for Environment and Health and the Italian Association of Epidemiology. Epidemiologists, public health professionals, statisticians as well as clinicians with an interest in epidemiology have appreciated the opportunity of combining an intensive learning of epidemiological subjects with the unique attraction for cultural and artistic enjoyment offered by Florence and Tuscany.

Since the creation of this educational program CREAL researchers taught the following subjects:

• Epidemiological methods II: case control studies (Manolis Kogevinas)
• Computer analysis of epidemiological data sets (Paco Fernández)
• Local and occupational environment and health (Josep M. Antó and Jordi Sunyer)
