Diana Van Gent

Diana van Gent is responsible for technical management of FP7 funded European scientific projects coordinated by CREAL. From initiation to closure stages, her work concerns the coordination and support actions CHICOS and ENRIECO, collaborative projects HELIX and PHENOTYPE. For the latter two, she is also responsible for developing, evaluating and carrying out communication strategies.


During her PhD study at the University of Nottingham (UK), Diana developed a great interest in science public engagement, which she pursued after receiving a doctorate in molecular genetics.  Following positions as Science Communicator at the Life Science Centre (Newcastle, UK) and Press Officer for the Society for Experimental Biology, she took up post at the National Genetics Reference Laboratory (NGRL Manchester) as Project & Communications Officer. Here she obtained qualification in PRINCE2 project management and set up the communication strategy for the organization with remit to support the Genetic Testing Network of the UK National Health Service. During this period, she was also Science & Engineering Ambassador for SETPOINT Greater Manchester, and contributed to Junior Café Scientifique.


Following secondment to Nowgen, (A Centre for Genetics in Healthcare, Manchester) she returned to the NGRL as Project Manager with a key role in restructuring the organization and manage   collaborations in national and international projects. Diana joined CREAL in 2010 to support the scientific coordinators of FP7 research in the Environment and Child Health Programmes.
