Stefano Guerra received his Medical Degree in 1996 from the University of Milan, where he also completed a fellowship in pulmonary medicine. Subsequently, he completed a Master in Public Health (concentration area in epidemiology) and a PhD in Epidemiology with minor in Genetics (2003) at the University of Arizona in Tucson. After completion of his PhD, he was on faculty at the Arizona Respiratory Center, University of Arizona, where he also taught graduate courses on genetic epidemiology and held a position as Director of the Concentration Area in Epidemiology (MPH Program). He currently holds a position as Associate Research Professor at CREAL.

  • Research areas

His main research focus is on identifying genetic and molecular profiles for development and progression of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and, to that purpose, he is involved in the design and conduct of several long-term cohort studies on respiratory diseases, including a 33-year cohort study on the genetics and proteomics of COPD. His work on molecular epidemiology has been funded through the US National Institutes of Health, the American Thoracic Society, the American Heart Association, and the Francis Families Foundation.
