Maribel Casas Sanahuja

Maribel Casas has a degree in Veterinary Medicine (2003) from the Universidad Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and she finished her Ph.D. degree in 2009 at the Centre for Research in Animal Health (CReSA-UAB) within the program of Medicine and Animal Health.

  • Research areas

Her doctoral thesis focused on the epidemiology and pathogenesis of hepatitis E virus infection in pigs; a human disease that occurs sporadically in industrialized countries and which is thought to have the pig as the main animal reservoir. She has recently joined CREAL (April 2009) as ENRIECO project coordinator under the supervision of Drs. Nieuwenhuijsen, Vrijheid, and Sunyer. ENRIECO (“Environmental Health Risks in European Birth Cohorts”) coordinates more than 30 birth cohorts across Europe in order to advance the knowledge on specific environment and health causal relationships related to child health. She also takes part in the national birth cohort project INMA (Childhood and Environment) where she studies the effects of exposure to metals during pregnancy and early childhood.
