Cristina Villanueva

Graduated in Environmental Sciences in 1998 and PhD in Environmental Epidemiology in 2003 by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). After a post-doc at the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) in Rennes (France), she is a researcher at CREAL since 2006, where she leads the water research projects.

  • Research Interests

Her research is focused on the study of the links between water and Health. In particular, 1) assess the exposure to disinfection by-products in drinking water and swimming pools; 2) evaluate the association with health effects such as cancer, reproductive outcomes, and child health; 3) understand the mechanism underlying these associations; 4) evaluate other water contaminants such as nitrate. She coordinates the water working group in the MCC-Spain and INMA projects, and participates in the EXPOSOMCIS EU project.
