The Arizona Respiratory Center at the University of Arizona, led by Dr. Fernando Martinez, has achieved great international recognition for his epidemiological research on asthma, having made outstanding contributions towards the knowledge of the natural history of childhood asthma in the knowledge of risk factors and treatment. As a result of their studies, the population model of childhood asthma in Tucson, Arizona, has become a global benchmark.

The incorporation CREAL Dr. Stefano Guerra, until now working at the Arizona Respiratory Center, has stimulated interest from both schools plan to establish a collaborative research centers that conduct both in asthma and COPD.

This interest was consolidated on 16th February 2009 with the collaboration agreement between CREAL and Arizona University. One of the important aspects of this agreement is immediate to strengthen the possibility that Dr. Stephano Guerra continue to maintain active part of their current research in Tucson, as this, focusing on COPD, is highly complementary with COPD research that develops in CREAL.
